Shotokan Karate-do
Shotokan is a hard-line style of Karate originating in Okinawa of the Ryukyu Islands, that was developed by O-Sensei Funakoshi Gichin, who brought it to Japan in 1922. The name 'Shotokan' was the name his students called his style after his death, referring to Funakoshi's author pseudonym of 'Shoto' meaning 'Pine Waves' and 'Kan' referring to Funakoshi's house, or Dojo. Our lineage of style is that of the Japan Karate Association (JKA), the recognized heir to the tradition of Shotokan Karate.
